Nia and our Baltimore Community
Nia is a sensory-based fitness class and lifestyle practice that blends dance, martial arts and healing arts. It is the only group exercise program that makes room for the unique spirit of every individual, including emotions and the mind as part of the workout.
Nia Technique was created in 1983 by Debbie Rosas and Carlos AyaRosas and it stands for Neuromuscular Integrative Action.
After being in the fitness industry for years teaching traditional aerobics classes, they started to realize that fitness could look, feel and be experienced differently – in a less painful, more pleasurable way. Their vision included barefoot aerobics, holistic and integrated fitness, wellness, personal growth, education and community. From "No pain, no gain," they went to "No pain, all gain!"
